FENCE MESH MANUFACTURING TECHNIQUES

30 December 2022

Building a fence is the best method to effectively secure the area. It helps to stop intruders, helps to protect property left on the property, and prevents free-living animals from approaching buildings. There are many types of fencing you can choose from, but one of the most versatile is traditional mesh fencing. Its use is supported by both its high durability and relatively low cost, making it perfect not only for protecting the neighborhood of residential or commercial buildings, but also more extensive plots of land. With the help of a fenced woven mesh, it is possible to secure a recreational plot, a sports facility, as well as an area used for cultivation, e.g. as an orchard or fruit plantation.

What does the production of the fence mesh look like?

Woven mesh fencing has been used for a long time as a cheap and durable security and fencing of property. Although its structure is very simple, it fulfills its function perfectly, and at the same time turns out to be very durable and resistant to external conditions, and additional security measures allow it to extend its service life. Traditionally, mesh is produced in a variety of mesh sizes depending on the needs of the specific application. It can also be manufactured from wire of various diameters.

The mesh production technology is uncomplicated, although it requires the use of specialized devices that will allow the wire to be properly braided and trimmed. In modern mesh fencing plants, special automatic machines are used for this purpose. The principle of their operation is simple – the wire used is fed from a coil and mechanically bent around a flat bar-shaped element adjusted to the mesh size. The material is wrapped around it so as to form a kind of spiral with very flattened sides. In order to speed up the entire process, pieces of wire from two spools are usually wound onto the die simultaneously.

The way the wires are wrapped around the flat bar causes that they are tied together, and while the machine is moving, the upper one is intertwined with the previously prepared fragment. When the new piece is completely woven, the device automatically cuts the wire, moves the drum on which the finished mesh is wound and starts weaving the next section.

The functional properties of the mesh, and especially its resistance to external conditions, largely depend on the way in which the wires were secured. The most popular methods of protecting the fencing mesh against corrosion are galvanizing and plastic coating. The galvanized mesh will be cheaper, but the durability of such protection will be shorter than in the case of a plastic coating.

Installation method and advantages of the mesh fence

Fence mesh is one of the fastest ways to secure an area. This type of fence requires proper preparation of the posts on which the net will be stretched. It is especially important to properly prepare the corner posts that will take over to keep the fence in the correct position. For greater stability, these posts are equipped with two supports, the so-called struts, one on each side where the fence will bend. For longer fences, similar reinforcements will also be needed in straight sections.

When installing a woven mesh, a taut wire is pulled along the height of the bottom and top edges of the mesh and in the middle of the mesh to help keep the fence in the correct position. A thicker steel bar is passed through the meshes of the last element of the net, which will be attached to special holders that are part of the corner post. The fence mesh is then gradually stretched and fastened to the next posts by means of a wire threaded through the posts and a piece of mesh falling out right next to it, or special screw clamps. The netting is also attached to a taut wire that runs at the bottom, in the middle, and often at the top. The final piece of the net is also installed on the post with a rod threaded through the eyelets.

The use of a fence mesh has many advantages. This type of fence is inexpensive and easy to install. All work is done quickly and without the use of additional specialized equipment, except for simple hand tools. The mesh can be used both as an openwork fence, but also as a frame, over which various climbing plants will be led, as well as a full one, supplemented with wicker mats or materials of similar weight and properties. It is also a good solution when a hedge is to be planted along the fence, as it does not restrict the access of light. Mesh fences are not only very practical, but also easy to adapt to the existing conditions. Such a fence can be made both with the use of posts embedded in the ground, and those that will be placed in the foundation. The mesh can be stretched over steel or concrete posts. It will also work as a temporary fence, installed, for example, while waiting for the delivery of the ordered spans.
