Fresh Inspiration for Springtime

12 September 2022

Galvanized fencing mesh is now a proven way to quickly separate from the neighborhood or a busy, dangerous street. It is also one of the cheapest and at the same time the most durable solutions available on the market, which are used by private and business investors. You can do the assembly on your own, and here we will tell you how to correctly install the fence mesh.

Choose the right material

Tightening the fence mesh is essential to avoid faults and time-consuming re-adjustments. Incorrectly made tension of the mesh wire generates additional costs, the mesh is deformed and sometimes it needs to be replaced because it does not fulfill its functions and it does not look aesthetically pleasing. So what is worth paying attention to at individual stages of the assembly and how to put the mesh on the fence? Among the products available on the market, you can choose between galvanized mesh and galvanized mesh coated with an additional layer of PVC.

Each of these solutions has its advantages and disadvantages, the main difference being properties such as corrosion resistance and UV radiation. The PVC mesh looks nice and is very tight, and well stretched, it can be used for over 25 years! If you do not care about the appearance, choose a galvanized mesh, which is also corrosion-resistant like the PVC-coated one, but has no color coating and is just gray / silver. Standard meshes have 55 or 65 mm eyelets and 1.5 meters high, and the wire diameter ranges between 2.5-3 and 4 mm, so you can fence as needed.

Installing a fence mesh – where to start?

Before you focus on how to stretch the woven mesh, plan the location of individual posts taking into account the division into initial, intermediate and corner posts. The installation of the fence mesh is efficient if the area has been properly cleared of debris, stones or vegetation. Remember that the posts are usually 2.5 meters apart.

For the corners, you will need additional side supports at an angle of 45 degrees. They stabilize your structure and prevent the posts from moving at the screed stage. The posts can be mounted pointwise or in the form of a foundation and formwork system. Ready-made prefabricated elements are also a popular solution, thanks to which you save your time and do not have to spend an additional few days for drying individual concrete layers.

How to attach a fence mesh to a post – a proven way

When the posts are well seated and leveled, you can stretch the fence mesh, starting with the starting posts. Remember that the tension wire should be located in 3 places: at the top, in the center of each span and next to the ground, i.e. every half a meter on average. To install the garden net, you will also need clamps, eyelets, tensioners and tension rods.

Always start stretching the fencing mesh by laying it flat so that the material can straighten itself. This is also the moment to check the arrangement of individual meshes and their possible correction. The correct installation of the fence mesh should start with the post marked as the initial or corner post, which will make your further work easier. Make sure that there are also mandatory tension bars next to these posts!

Tighten the net in few minutes

Remember that there is no one universal method, how to install a fence mesh and how to connect it to the posts so that it serves unchanged as long as possible. Once the net is straightened, you pass the tension rod between the outer eyelets and then attach it to the first post with eyebolts. When tightening the wire of the fence mesh, it is a good idea to have an additional person to help you to achieve the best effect and optimal tension.

How to put a net on the inner posts of your fence? Nothing easier! At this stage, all you need is a standard bending key and a thin wire with which you can attach individual eyelets. If you want the mesh to be attached to the intermediate posts in a more aesthetic way than with a binding wire, use small wire grommets that are attached to the post with the included sheet metal screw. Attach the grommet at 3 heights in the same way that the tension wire is guided. Also check the tension of the mesh along its entire length on an ongoing basis. In the final phase, use the tensioner to give your fence the desired shape and remove any imperfections.
