Fresh Inspiration for Springtime

21 October 2022

When setting up a fence, you need handy accessories for installing the mesh, thanks to which your fence will gain stability, durability and aesthetic appearance. What will be necessary when fencing with a net and what additional elements should you have to buy? In our article, you will find some helpful tips and answers to these questions.

Choice of accessories for the mesh fence

To build a mesh fence, you will need posts and a roll of mesh of the right length. When you complete them, all you have to do is buy mounting accessories and install the fence. Which elements for the installation of the mesh fence should be on your list? Here is their list:

– tensioners,

– galvanized tension wire,

– round or rectangular clamps (bands),

– tension rods,

– guides,

– caps for support posts,

– screws for fixing the displacement pole cap and the tension rod.

During the assembly work, you will also need other net accessories, including protective canopies for the posts. If you want to additionally install barbed or razor wire, be sure to stock up on steel extension arms and special protective gloves. Do you have a forest net? Buy galvanized mounting staples to be able to attach it to wooden poles.

Basic elements for a fence mesh

When you have a concrete foundation and embedded fence posts, you begin the main stage of fencing, i.e. fixing the covering material. What mounting accessories for the mesh fence do you need to prepare then? To the ends of the net, spread out on the ground, you install one tensioning bar (if you do not have bars, you can also use galvanized flat bars interchangeably), and after making precise measurements, you screw clamps on the screws and tensioners to the posts.

Adjust the tension wire for the arrangement of the mesh to its type and color – among the products available on the market, you will find galvanized and PVC coated wires, green, gray, brown and black. These products are sold in disks of 200, 300 and even 400 linear meters in one, and you can also choose from various diameters: for example, with a 2 mm–2.5 mm core.

Stabilizing hooks for the fence mesh

What to do to make the mesh fence stable and rigid, regardless of unfavorable external conditions? For this purpose, use a system of hooks, i.e. plastic grommets to stabilize the tension wire or a plate for attaching the fence mesh to the posts. Plastic guides, resistant to UV rays and high and low temperatures, can be found in specialist stores or online, together with a handy sheet metal screw.

Are you a fan of metal grommets? Use galvanized plates, and if you plan to build a fence in mountain or seaside towns, you can also choose reinforced guides, with a thick sheet metal screw, supporting both the post itself and a selected part of the mesh, which remains intact even after hurricane winds pass.

Protective accessories for fence posts

Another group of accessories needed during the construction of a mesh fence are products for securing metal posts made of round, square or rectangular pipes. These are various types of plugs, also called caps, visors or caps. These products have the form of overlays, made of sheet metal or plastic, with rounded edges to prevent the accumulation of water. They are lightweight, easy-to-install accessories that protect metal elements against corrosion and constitute an aesthetic addition.

Plastic canopies are available in universal sizes that you can easily match to your posts. You can choose, among others, overlays:

– round, with a diameter (fi) 42, 48, 51 and 60 mm;

– rectangular: 60 mm x 40 mm;

– square – 50 mm x 50 mm, 80 mm x 80 mm, 100 mm x 100 mm.

An alternative to plastic canopies are metal, galvanized caps. When choosing them, check how they should be connected to the post – using screws or by welding.

What should you keep in mind when buying mesh fence mounting accessories?

At the stage of purchasing in the warehouse or from the mesh manufacturer, make sure that the ties and all other mounting and tensioning elements are of the same color. Choose only galvanized accessories, with an anti-corrosion layer that will effectively protect metal coatings from the effects of moisture for many years. You can also buy powder coated products in universal shades of green, graphite, brown or black.

If you have a long, several-hundred-meter fence to be built and you want to save your time and money, ask for a comprehensive valuation directly to a manufacturer of fencing meshes. The technical advisor will then tell you which accessories for the installation of the fencing mesh you should complete in order to be able to fence efficiently and without problems.
